The Four Plans that Comprise a Continuity of Operations Program (Marsh)
The Business Continuity Planning (BCP) Collaborative Program is open to all TICUA member institutions and is designed to prepare a campus in the event of recovering operations after any type of interruption and to promote synergistic relationships among members. Specifically, Marsh will offer campuses a unified program structure and approach to BCP, leveraging the continuity strategies across TICUA members. Through a group-learning model, participating institutions will gather together five times during the 2007-2008 academic year to receive BCP training. Additionally, technical assistance and on-site visits from Marsh will occur during this time period to assure the campus is progressing through the five stages of the BCP Collaborative Program. Through the collaborative model, institutions will be encouraged to develop agreements, when appropriate, to assist each other during recovery periods.
In the Spring of 2007, the "Business Continuity Collaborative" was born and eight institutions agreed to participate as charter members in this agreement. Phase I of the project, which involves two of the eight institutions going through a pilot process to further refine the Marsh process specifically for both urban and rural Tennessee life, began in June. Participating institutions include:
Aquinas College
Belmont University (pilot)
Lane College
Lincoln Memorial University
Meharry Medical College
Sewanee: The University of the South (pilot)
Southern Adventist University
Southern College of Optometry
The first step in the Collaborative process is to understand and evaluate the campus emergency response plan. The BCP used these resources to help inform their work and found them to be helpful to their individual campus planning around emergencies. Please note that "emergency" planning and "continuity" planning are not synonymous terms. The continuity plan is what kicks in after the emergency has been handled.
