Dr. Claude O. Pressnell, Jr., Elected 2007 Vice-Chair of the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance

Nashville, TN—The Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance elected
Dr. Claude O. Pressnell, Jr., president of the Tennessee Independent Colleges and
Universities Association, as their 2007 Vice Chair. 
 
     Last fall, Pressnell was appointed to his second three-year term on the Advisory
Committee by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN).  The Advisory Committee
serves as the independent, bi-partisan source on student financial aid policy by providing
advice and counsel to Congress and the Secretary of Education. 
     
     “I welcome the opportunity to serve the Committee in this new capacity,”
Pressnell said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to improve financial aid
policies that ensure individuals have access to the college that best serves their needs.” 

     Pressnell has over 20 years experience in higher education.  He has an extensive
background focusing on financial aid issues, having held several positions in admissions
and financial aid at Belmont University and Southwest Baptist University.  Pressnell also
serves as a national and international advisor on higher education reform. 

     The Advisory Committee was established by Congress with the enactment of the
Higher Education Amendments of 1986, and includes eleven members who serve three-
year terms. Members are appointed by leaders of the House of Representatives, leaders of
the Senate, and by the Secretary of Education.
