Nashville, TN U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) announced the reappointment of Dr. Claude O. Pressnell, Jr., president of the Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Association, to the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance.

“It has been a pleasure serving on the Advisory Committee to improve student financial aid policies,” Pressnell said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that the financial aid system in this country assures access for individuals to a college of their choice.”

The Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance was established by Congress with the enactments of the Higher Education Amendments of 1986.  The Advisory Committee serves as the independent source on student financial aid policy by providing advice and counsel to Congress and the Secretary of Education.

Pressnell’s reappointment to the Advisory Committee will begin on October 1, 2005.  The Advisory Committee includes eleven members who serve three-year terms. Members are appointed by leaders of the House of Representatives, leaders of the Senate, and by the Secretary of Education.
