Tusculum College is Tennessee’s oldest and perhaps most innovative college. A Presbyterian Church (USA) affiliated college founded in 1794, Tusculum College is one of only three colleges in the United States following a “focused calendar” course system. Students take one course at a time in successive 3.5 week blocks, with each semester consisting of four blocks. Tusculum College awards baccalaureate degrees and the Master of Arts degree in education and organizational management. Tusculum College’s emphasis on the Civic Arts is a marked distinction, with a curriculum designed to help students become effective citizens who possess the practical wisdom needed to participate in a democratic society. The core curriculum, known as the Commons program, strives to give students an intellectual common ground and develop students’ skills to be engaged learners in both the classroom and community. The College prepares students to be engaged in their communities and to know how to effectively achieve the common good and justice in a global context. For non-traditional students, Tusculum offers customized degree programs through its Graduate and Professional Studies Division offered at the Greeneville Campus, as well as at the College’s Knoxville Regional Center Campus, and off-site centers in the Tri-Cities and in Morristown.
