Maryville College is ideally located between the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Knoxville, the State’s third largest city. Additionally, the 320-acre campus includes 118 acres of College Woods that serve as a natural classroom and recreational haven. Founded in 1819, Maryville is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the nation and is a Presbyterian (USA) church-related college, welcoming students of all faiths. Maryville College has been named a 2013 top southeast college by The Princeton Review and is recognized as a “College of Distinction” for its exemplary commitment to the four distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Communities and Successful Outcomes.
Known for its academic rigor and focus on the liberal arts and sciences, Maryville College offers 60 academic majors and pre-professional programs. Maryville College also is one of the nation’s few colleges requiring seniors to complete a comprehensive exam in their major and conduct an extensive Senior Thesis. This is the capstone of Maryville’s academic rigor, and successful completion signifies that Maryville graduates are ready for that next step in life - their professions or graduate school. Maryville College is where students come to learn how to make a
difference in the world.
